First time holidaymakers to Cornwall often can’t believe they’re still in the UK. Many comments on the hot weather, beaming sun and laid back friendly locals. While it isn’t guaranteed to be sunny all the time (hey, we’re still in the UK after all) the region has lots to do whether the sun is out or not.
Water sports are a big draw for the county but there’s also plenty of coastal walks, hiking and biking you can do if getting wet isn’t your thing. For those looking for a bit more of a relaxing holiday a trip to Cornwall is perfect. You can chill out on the beach, eat some amazing food and laze around the bars of Newquay, Port Isaac, St Ives or Penzance.
There’s a lot to see and do in Cornwall and to experience the county properly you really need multiple visits. That’s why finding a good base for multiple holidays is a must if you want to do Cornwall properly. We think our luxury lodges are great places to stay when you’re holidaying in the South West and Cornwall and we’ll explain why in this article.
What makes Cornwall and the South West so great?
What makes Cornwall and the South West so great? Besides all the amazing things we mentioned in the paragraph above we honestly think Cornwall’s location is what sets it apart from the rest of the UK.
It’s tucked away on the South West coast of the British Isle which means it gets a lot of sun and warm weather from the Gulf Stream so it stays warm and a little tropical for most of the year. Also, since it’s right in the corner of the UK it can be a bit of a journey getting to Cornwall.
There’s no motorway to Penzance so the drive can take a while. You might think that sounds like a negative but the journey is a great way to get you in the holiday mood. Driving down to Cornwall truly feels like a journey and when you get there you might as well be in another country. No other place in the UK is as isolated as Cornwall and that makes it a magical experience for you and your family to enjoy and explore.
