One of the biggest decisions you can make when it comes to owning a holiday home is deciding where you want your holiday home to be located. If you’re thinking about buying a holiday home, here are just a few reasons Suffolk should be first on your list.
You have Bury St Edmunds on your doorstep
Bury St Edmunds is often referred to as “the jewel in the crown” of Suffolk and it’s easy to see why. Surrounded by countryside with 1,000 years of history to explore, Bury St Edmunds offers award-winning food and drink, fantastic shopping, the arts, annual festivals, and stunning parks. And buying a holiday home in Suffolk means you’ll have all of this on your doorstep.
Did you know the original patron Saint of England was St Edmund? This was his home and it’s where the town derives its name. If history is your thing you can visit the magnificent St Edmundsbury Cathedral and stand among the ruins of the Abbey of St Edmund in the stunning Abbey Gardens, once the most famous pilgrimage location in England. The historic town of Bury St Edmunds is also something of a culinary hotspot, with a vibrant bar and restaurant scene and a number of award-winning restaurants making this Suffolk’s ‘foodie town’. Our holiday park in Suffolk, Aspen Country Park, is actually just a short drive from Bury St Edmunds.
There’s so much natural beauty
From golden beaches, to sparkling rivers and colourful meadows – Suffolk really has it all. Buying a holiday lodge in Suffolk means you’ll own a holiday home in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.
Suffolk is home to a beautiful stretch of coastline that looks off into the North Sea, and nowhere along its shore is more picturesque than the Suffolk Coasts and Heath Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The dunes, beaches and heathland are the perfect environment for a whole range of rare birds and animals so it’s a nature lover’s paradise. There are many walking trails and picnic spots in the area too so if the weather’s good it’s a great trip out for the whole family.
Suffolk is home to a Michelin star
Suffolk is lucky enough to have its own Michelin Starred restaurant – Pea Porridge. Located on a square which was once called Pea Porridge Green the restaurant is tucked away in a quiet residential area. The building dates back to 1820 and was actually two cottages before it became a bakery and now a restaurant. The interior harks back to its original use with old pine tables, an open fire and a splendid bakers oven inside. Pea and Porridge prioritises local, seasonal produce, combining simplicity and flavour. “Nose-to-Tail” dishes are also a regular staple on their menu, which changes almost every day.
It’s not surprising that Suffolk has been awarded the highest honour in food. The whole county is known for its delicious food – especially its pork, fresh fish and shellfish, cheese, milk, fruit and veg, artisan bread and so many other delicious delights. And if you love locally brewed beer – Suffolk is the place to buy your holiday home.
