A summer picnic is one of the best ways you can spend a sunny day on holiday. There’s something so wonderful about eating some yummy snacks whilst experiencing the beautiful outdoors.
Because we have one of the best holiday parks in Suffolk, next time you’re paying a visit to Aspen Country Park, we thought we’d share some of the best places you can visit for a picnic.
Lackford Lakes
Lackford Lakes is overseen by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and with good reason. While you picnic here you can enjoy the sights and sounds of myriad birds, insects and animals including kingfishers. Be careful they don’t steal a sandwich!
There is a designated picnic area by the raised pond on the blue trail but if you fancy something a little more peaceful there are so many other excellent spots where you can lay down your rug and tuck in.
Dunwich Heath and Beach
With 50 miles of heritage coastline, there are plenty of beaches to visit in Suffolk but we love Dunwich Heath and beach. It’s home to a vast array of wildlife, with hundreds of different species to be spotted across the site as you eat your picnic. Just make sure you’ve let your food settle before you decide to take a dip in the sea!
Clare Castle Country Park
If you’re a lover of history and culture then what better backdrop for your summer picnic than the remains of a 13th century castle?! Located in the idyllic town of Clare, Clare Castle Country park boasts plenty of great flat spaces to lay out your picnic rug.
Beccles Quay
Do you love watching boats sail past on the water? Then Beccles Quay is the perfect location for you! The quay is scattered with picnic benches and it’s a lovely tranquil spot to watch the world sail by.
If you’re picnicking with the little ones there’s a children’s play area located nearby too! You can also walk off your sausage rolls by exploring the local area on one of the many walking routes around the quay.
Nicholas Everitt Park
If you want to preface your picnic with something a little more adventure based then Nicholas Everitt Park has numerous water sports and land based activities including tennis, bowling, crazy golf and trampolines.
There’s even a bandstand which sometimes plays host to a traditional brass band for Sunday concerts so you can be serenaded as you eat and drink!
