Our Favourite Family Attractions Near Aspen Country Park

If you’re looking for holiday homes for sale in Suffolk then look no further than our very own Aspen Country Park.

A protected, isolated site, surrounded by magnificent lakes, Aspen Country Park is a wonderful place to combine a love for the great outdoors and magnificent history. Set within 222 acres of stately and prestigious grounds, once belonging to the Duke of Norfolk, the Park is set amongst stunning parkland and woodlands as well as lakes and a Grade II listed church tower!

However, the location of the park also means there are lots of family friendly attractions nearby. If you’re thinking about buying a holiday home in Suffolk, here are our favourite family activities you can enjoy near Aspen Country Park.

Thetford Forest Park

Set amongst 18,730 beautiful hectares, Thetford Forest Park is home to the UK’s largest man made lowland forest and is a fantastic way to spend a day. Whether you fancy exploring the local animal and plant life, learning about the history and heritage of Mildenhall Warren and Lynford Arboretum or getting involved with the exciting outdoor play facilities at High Lodge, there’s a variety of fun to be had. St Helen’s picnic site is the perfect place to rest your feet and refuel so be sure to bring a packed lunch! If you forget, don’t worry, there is a cafe!

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary

We absolutely adore this amazing owl sanctuary, not only because it’s a fantastic place to visit, but because it’s also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region. Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day which makes it the perfect time to visit. You can even adopt an owl!

Ickworth House, Park & Gardens

Ickworth House is a stunning Italianate Palace in the heart of Suffolk. The house is the centrepiece of the entire estate and it was built as an 18th century palace to showcase the many treasures and art collected by the Earl Bishop. Pay a visit to learn about the spirited history of the house and the family connected to it. Once you’ve had your history lesson you can walk around the beautiful evergreen gardens or take advantage of the cycle hire hub. There are also a range of kids activities including an adventure playground, plus a gift shop and cafe.

National Horse Racing Museum

If you’re a fan of horse racing then you will love this museum. You can take guided tours around the museum or choose to wander round yourself admiring the exhibits. But they do offer an amazing Junior Fun Tour which is ideal for children. Simply ask the gallery staff for a Fun Tour pack when you enter the museum and kids can answer questions and spot clues and tips on the way round. It really is a unique type of museum and they even offer you the chance to meet former racehorses in the flagship home of Retraining of Racehorses. Plus, no visit is complete without riding a winner on their famous racehorse simulator!

Banham Zoo

Set in over 50 acres of beautiful open parkland and gardens, Banham Zoo is home to thousands of animals from all around the world. A day out here promises hours of fun for everyone. As well as the chance to get up close and personal with a variety of wild and exotic animals, the zoo also offers daily animal feeding talks, ‘Amazing Animals!’ presentations and one of the most exciting Birds of the World Displays in the UK! You can also enjoy fun and interactive sessions in the Conservation Education Centre.
