Making the most of spring in Northern Ireland

Making the most of spring in Northern Ireland

Summer might be the go-to season for getaways in the British Isles. The weather is mostly sunny, beaches and seaside towns open up and the summer holidays are in full swing. But, Spring is a season of untapped potential when it comes to the great British getaway.

With an Encore holiday home, you can beat the summertime crowds and visit on your own schedule at any time of year. So, in this blog, we delve into how to make the most of your springtime trip to an Encore Park

Take Time to Step Back in Time

Northern Ireland has a vast history, from the Normans to the Romans. Excitingly, some of that is still around to visit today! Spring is a great time to visit a historical destination without the hustle and bustle of summer holiday crowds. Here are some of our favourite spots near our parks.

Ballycopeland Windmill is the last working windmill in East Down, complete with exhibits and surrounded by wide open spaces. Aside from its storied past, the windmill is also the site of historic conservation. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, it was lovingly restored to its former glory and opened to the public.

Nendrum Ecclesiastical Site features structures dating back to the 7th and even 5th century. It was once the site of an ancient monastery, but now the ruins are a place to enjoy a picnic and take in the peace and quiet.

See Spring Bloom

As part of ‘The Emerald Isle’ Northern Ireland is known for its lush flora. With spring blooming across the nation, taking a trip to Northern Ireland’s top gardens and nature reserves is a must.

On the edge of Strangford Lough sits Mount Stewart and its world-famous gardens. Wander through the various sections of the grounds, from the Shamrock Garden to the Dodo Terrace and the fragrant Rose Garden. Just a 15-minute drive from Ballyhalbert Park, it’s a perfect day trip.

Rowallane Gardens truly takes the prize of the most beautiful in Northern Ireland. Throughout the year, you can attend guided tours tailored to each season, showing you the best the gardens have to offer. From the aptly named Spring Ground to the herbs and flowers of the walled gardens, this is a plant lover’s dream.

All of these attractions are a short journey from our holiday parks. With so much to offer, a holiday home can be a great option! You can truly holiday on your own schedule and visit whenever you need an escape. We have three holiday parks in this beautiful part of the world: Ballyhalbert, Windsor and Cloughey.
