Autumnal Activities for all the Family

Autumnal Activities for all the Family

When you think of a staycation, you may think of enjoying the glimpse of British sun, but the colder months have lots to offer in the way of activities. In this blog, we’ll explore all of the seasonal things to do near our parks across the UK this Autumn!

Take a Ghost Walk

In cities across the country, there are legends and myths of ghosts that roam old backstreets, pubs and churchyards. In Bury St Edmunds, near Aspen Country Park, local guides are hosting ghost tours of the town.

Learn some macabre history and get a festive fright as you wrap up and take a 90 minute journey through the sites of murders, riots and witchcraft. Tours run from Halloween night to the end of March.

Enjoy some Seasonal Produce

It’s a great feeling when you can enjoy fruit and veg knowing where it has come from. It’s even better if you’ve picked it yourself! With all of our parks being located in beautiful areas of the British countryside, there is always great produce on hand!

Hill Farm, located in Peterborough a short drive from Cherry Bird Country Park, hosts a farm shop serving a variety of seasonal produce. If you’re ready to get your wellies on and head into the fields, you can also pick your own throughout the year!

Go Rockpooling

Much like the countryside, British coastlines are an abundance of wildlife activity! With beaches becoming calmer, it’s the perfect time to wrap up and head down to the coast. With Widemouth Bay under 15 minutes away from our Willow Bay Park, you have the best of British beaches on your doorstep!

Make sure to check the tide times and grab a rockpooling guidebook before you go so you know what to look for! It’s a great activity to get kids interested in nature, and you can bring your four legged friends along too! Keep your eye out for coast-walking and rockpooling events put on by local wildlife trusts like the Cornwall Wildlife Trust for more guided trips.

Visit Agatha Christie’s Holiday Home

Greenway House in Devon – an hour’s drive from Hornbeam Country Park was once the favoured getaway location for famous mystery writer Agatha Christie. With a library of over 5,000 of her personal library of books, furniture from her family home and her 1800s grand piano among other artefacts, it is a perfect visit for any literary enthusiast.

Across the UK, there are also a variety of well-kept period buildings and stately homes preserved by the National Trust. To find a location near one of our holiday parks, visit their website.

There is so much to enjoy across the country throughout Autumn. Although the weather has turned and the days are shorter, there is no shortage of things to do and see. Whether you’re planning to take in the beauty of the countryside, enjoy the crisp coastal air or visit a historic site, Encore offers a range of luxury holiday homes to have as the base for all your adventures!
